As the first contemporary store in Atlantic Canada, Attica has been promoting modern Canadian design since it opened its doors almost twenty years ago. We first became familiar with the design sensibilities of Tim Antoniuk when he was a member of the team behind Hothouse Design. Years later, Tim now has branched out on his own and formed Question Objects, a limited production craftsman-based business in Edmonton, Alberta.

Tim's first three collections are inspired by the beauty of the Canadian wilderness: leaf, landscape and arctic.

The design team at EQ3 has been busier than ever, and are rolling out so many great new introductions. The latest dining pieces are constructed with natural materials like solid wood, raw marble and soft linen. The new designs have a warm and comfortable feel, making them versatile and easy to personalize. Paired with the right accessories, these pieces fit into a city condo and modern cottage, alike.

The Farmhouse dining table features solid white oak construction and rustic details that are reminiscent of the traditional country table. Clean lines keep the look modern, while irregularities in the wood enhance the table’s natural appeal.

The Frances Chair is one of EQ3′s most comfortable dining chairs, thanks to a curved back rest and soft linen upholstery. Solid oak legs lend a rustic and wholesome feel to the design.

The Kendall dining table gives traditional dining an updated aesthetic with modernized proportions and a solid reclaimed teak top. Each top is one of a kind and features natural variations in colour and pattern. Two size options offer flexibility to accommodate any home or budget.

The Len dining chair features a solid ash frame with molded back rest and grey upholstered seat.

The Lyla side chair and arm chair boast a charming, classic design that’s perfect for dining and occasional use. The chair is constructed of rubberwood, and comes in two styles (side chair and arm chair) and four colour options (red, white, grey wash and black) for added personality.

The Mesa dinette table, designed by Berlin-based studio 45 Kilo, combines a simple profile with modern details and quality materials. The table’s round solid marble top and unique iron sheet metal legs maximize seating – perfect for small-spaced apartments and condos.

the new ophelia bedroom collection

When we started Attica eighteen years ago, as the first contemporary furniture store in Atlantic Canada, almost all of the wooden furniture that we showcased was light in tone, primarily natural maple. Later, we saw dark, espresso wood tones become the standard, which stayed in trend for many years. Now, there is a movement to seeing more wood grain, as evidenced in the rise of natural walnut pieces.

At market this year we were quite excited to see the new Ophelia collection, made in Canada. Clean, sleek and contemporary, the Ophelia bedroom collection features matte white oak accented with steel legs and optional lacquer accents. 

Will there be a large trend towards this light finish? Perhaps not; this tonality is for the client with more modern design sensibilities. We're quite excited to feature it as for years many of our bedroom furniture manufacturers did not even offer a light natural tones in wood, and we feel that we're able to get back to our roots in being able to showcase these finishes.

EQ3 has designed a brand new collection for the bedroom. The Harvest Bedroom Collection is inspired by Canadian cabin country and features solid oak and oak veneer construction. It celebrates the beauty and character of wood with exaggerated proportions, end grain detailing and grooved out drawer pulls. The collection includes a variety of pieces – two headboard options (panel or slatted), a dresser, a chest and a night stand – making finding the right fit for your space easy.

The recliner’s foot rest and back rest function individually, offering multiple seating positions to suit your comfort. A brushed nickel steel sled base is an unexpected and elegant detail that enhances the chair’s design.

This past year has been so great for contemporary Canadian furniture introductions, including the exciting new Sonoma bedroom collection.

The Sonoma panel bed offers a strong but simple look. All components are built tough for commercial and residential applications. All drawers in this bedroom are built with the industries best metal "BLUM" drawer glides. Optional pillow rests for the headboard are available.
