question objects at attica

As the first contemporary store in Atlantic Canada, Attica has been promoting modern Canadian design since it opened its doors almost twenty years ago. We first became familiar with the design sensibilities of Tim Antoniuk when he was a member of the team behind Hothouse Design. Years later, Tim now has branched out on his own and formed Question Objects, a limited production craftsman-based business in Edmonton, Alberta.

Tim's first three collections are inspired by the beauty of the Canadian wilderness: leaf, landscape and arctic.

the new ophelia bedroom collection

When we started Attica eighteen years ago, as the first contemporary furniture store in Atlantic Canada, almost all of the wooden furniture that we showcased was light in tone, primarily natural maple. Later, we saw dark, espresso wood tones become the standard, which stayed in trend for many years. Now, there is a movement to seeing more wood grain, as evidenced in the rise of natural walnut pieces.

At market this year we were quite excited to see the new Ophelia collection, made in Canada. Clean, sleek and contemporary, the Ophelia bedroom collection features matte white oak accented with steel legs and optional lacquer accents.

Will there be a large trend towards this light finish? Perhaps not; this tonality is for the client with more modern design sensibilities. We're quite excited to feature it as for years many of our bedroom furniture manufacturers did not even offer a light natural tones in wood, and we feel that we're able to get back to our roots in being able to showcase these finishes.

No matter what wood finish you're looking for, at Attica we have you covered. In the meantime, please enjoy these Ophelia images.

calligaris orbital dining table - designed by paninfarina

Attica Furnishings is excited to introduce the Orbital Dining Table by Calligaris to Atlantic Canada.Pininfarina design meets Calligaris ingenuity in a masterpiece of form and functionality that will become the focus point of your living area while comfortably seating up to ten people. Orbital opens up your space: just a simple gesture is all it takes to slide out the two extension leaves in a fluid circular motion.

The powerful polyurethane-coated metal column gives the table great stability while the dramatic wide aperture in the middle contributes to its distinctive streamlined aesthetic.

Closed or open, Orbital's elegance remains unchanged. The extra-clear glass reveals the beauty of the ingenious extension mechanism. The smoked glass gives a touch of class and mystery to sophisticated, subdued settings. The glass is toughened for maximum safety.

Orbital features an innovative automatic extension mechanism developed by Calligaris' continuous technical research. Two elegant metal arms support the glass extension leaves that open simultaneously with a smooth rotational movement.

A simple gesture sets off the process: you'll be amazed by the smoothness and silence of this magical extension mechanism, which automatically locks the leaf into place.

modern bedroom: trip hop

The Trip Hop bedroom collection is what impeccable style and attention to detail are all about: stylish handles, metal legs, large round mirror, clean, linear chest, etc. Available in custom colour options, it is shown here in a clear and warm wheat finish, which provides a perfect complement to the textured grey fabric headboard.

Focusing on basics of line and shape, the Trip Hop collection features metal legs that give a superb look to the furniture. Its simplicity in detail is an asset to the design, making it easy to blend with elements. A sleek and fresh environment, this is what Trip Hop brings to the home. The strong linear element of this collection is reinforced through the long handles running the length of the drawer; the drawer front devoid of hardware keeps the look simple and clean. The metal legs, seen on both the bed and night stand, give a modern finish to the retro inspired-look of this bedroom set.

drip dry in style

The Dishgarden has just arrived in our Halifax store. Even though I have a dishwasher, and try to avoid handwashing dishes at all costs, this new dish rack has me re-thinking my life choices. I want to put this dishrack on my counter just because I want to look at it.
The DishGarden is perfect for small and large dishes, even pots and pans! And it has 2 utensil holders which can be moved around based on the other items drying in the rack. The DishGarden fits perfectly in the sink or can be used on the counter-top. Plus there is a silicone spout which drains the excess water.

Even if you already have a dishwasher, you just might want to give the Dishgarden a try!
